The three-leafed sage is a perennial that can grow to five feet, sprouting anew in the spring from the roots. It is less branched than the common sage (Salvia officinalis). The stemmed, longish egg-shaped leaves have two small leaflets, the characteristic that gives it its name. The rose to blue-violet flowers grow in loose whorls of 4 to 6. Western and Southern Turkey, Greece , the Greek islands. Southern Italy, and Sicily . Three-leafed sage prefers areas rich in limestone along the coast and arid grassland.
